Between history and traditions
The engagement ring, a deeply symbolic piece of jewelry, dates back to Roman times and became increasingly widespread across Europe throughout the Middle Ages. Even then, the engagement period— varying in length depending on the couple—served as a time for reflection and preparation before beginning their life together through marriage.
This commitment was materialized by the engagement ring in the form of a simple ring, offered by the fiancé. From those early times, the jewel was worn to the left annular by the future bride-to-be because according to ancestral beliefs, this finger was directly linked to the heart which gave the jewel a touch of romanticism. It was from the 15th century that the stones appeared on the engagement rings.
Over the centuries, this custom evolved into a lasting tradition, passed down through generations. In recent decades, engagement rings have made a strong comeback, becoming a nearly essential step in the modern marriage process. While the tradition was never lost in more traditional families, it has been significantly highlighted by cinema and popularized by celebrities who proudly showcase their rings on social media.
The marriage proposal
A marriage proposal is often a truly special moment filled with emotions and romance— one that the future couple will remember for the rest of their lives. Traditionally, the proposal involves the fiancé getting down on one knee to ask for his partner’s hand in marriage.
Some choose an intimate romantic dinner, others make the big ask during a trip to the other side of the world, and more and more are opting for bold, public declarations —at concerts, sporting events, or iconic landmarks, surrounded by strangers— to add a unique twist.
Event agencies and other wedding planners have emerged and offer their services to support the engaged in the organization of unusual or surprising requests and thus create a unique and unforgettable moment.
CHOOSING the engagement ring
In the past, it was customary for a family heirloom or piece of jewelry to be passed down directly to the bride-to-be. Today, more and more couples choose the engagement ring together, embracing the unique experience of custom creation. Designing the ring becomes part of the meaningful gesture of commitment— a way for the couple to formalize their relationship and announce their intention to marry in the near or distant future.
It is also an opportunity to immortalize and concretize their love through enduring, precious materials, such as gold or platinum and precious stones to thus constitute the beginning of the heritage of the future family. A true token of love and promise of marriage the engagement ring is a powerful symbol of the couple and represents the very first step in their future life together.
Settings
Originally, the engagement ring was just a ring. However, it has grown over time and the emblematic model "Marguerite" or "Pompadour" composed of a center stone and a diamond entourage gave way to unique and more original designs.
Today, there are no limits to creation. Couples are increasingly drawn to crafting a bespoke, personalized ring that reflects their individual story—one that is truly their own.
A Diamond is Forever ...
Discovered over 3000 years ago, this stone that is diamond, with extraordinary hardness is in the eyes of the general public a real guarantee of sincere union and symbol of purity
Known as the “Queen of Gems,” this stone is seen as eternal, and its exceptional qualities have earned it worldwide admiration.
Diamond deposits are found across the globe, particularly in South Africa, Angola, Australia, Botswana, Canada, the Congo, and Russia. For many decades, diamonds have been the top choice for engagement rings, prized for their brilliance and unmatched durability—making them the ultimate expression of lasting love.
And color GEMSTONESTONES
Today, diamonds no longer have a monopoly on engagement rings. More and more couples are turning to colored gemstones to express their love in a unique and vibrant way. Precious stones such as emeralds, rubies, and sapphires are often chosen, allowing for jewelry in nearly every shade of the rainbow.
These gems also paved the way to unknown stones from the general public about ten years ago and yet increasingly used in jewelry. Thus, deep tsavorite grenats, Tanzanites with blue and mauve reflections, spinels or even tourmalines with multiple colors now adorn engagement rings and participate in their splendor.
